Video, medical, and volumetric annotation
Annotate video frames and medical-image slices while preserving the correct frame, slice, view, and orientation context.
Availability and format behavior#
- Viewer controls can differ by sample and encoded metadata.
- Assisted annotation requires the same engine readiness described in the tools guide.
- A dataset can be viewable while editing is unavailable because of format, role, or processing state.
Annotate video frames#
- Confirm the current frame
Use the frame label and timeline before drawing. Previous and next-frame controls move within the video; Previous and Next sample controls move between samples.
- Use frame markers
Timeline markers identify frames containing object annotations, classifications, or both. Select a marker to revisit annotated content.
- Draw or correct the object
Create boxes or polygons on the current frame and assign labels. Review motion, occlusion, and boundary changes rather than assuming geometry remains constant.
- Apply a classification range
Set a valid start and end frame before adding a classification across a range. Confirm that the start is not after the end and inspect representative frames.
- Persist or auto-annotate carefully
Persist Annotation can copy eligible work to the next frame. Auto Annotate can process a chosen number of subsequent similar frames from a reviewed reference object.
- Review and save
Inspect every affected frame, correct drift or occlusion errors, and save the current video annotation state.
Annotate NIfTI volumes#
- Select the intended view
Use the available NIfTI view selector and confirm the displayed anatomical plane before navigating slices.
- Navigate to the target slice
Move through slices with the viewer or temporal navigation controls and verify the slice indicator before drawing.
- Create slice-aware geometry
Draw and label the object on the active slice. Treat geometry on another slice or view as separate review work unless it was deliberately propagated.
- Review adjacent slices and views
Check boundaries on neighboring slices and, when relevant, another available view. Confirm that the saved annotation belongs to the intended slice and view.
Review DICOM, TIFF, and ZIP-backed medical samples#
- Inspect DICOM context
Review the displayed DICOM metadata, selected view, slice indicator, and orientation before drawing. Do not infer anatomy from filename alone.
- Adjust the DICOM display
Use Image Adjust window and level controls to make structures visible. Display adjustment supports review and does not replace checking the original medical-image context.
- Check orientation
Confirm the active orientation after changing view or navigating a series. Draw only when the canvas and metadata describe the intended frame or slice.
- Handle TIFF as an image
Use image tools for a supported TIFF sample, then verify that its rendered orientation and intensity are suitable for annotation.
- Respect ZIP-backed constraints
Use an accepted ZIP only as the supported medical bundle created by the ingestion workflow. Review extracted frames or slices in the editor; do not expect arbitrary archive contents to become annotatable.
- Save with full context
Before saving, reconfirm sample, frame or slice, view, orientation, object labels, and classifications.
